Testing Window
The CPA exam is offered in a 2 month testing window. The third month is a blackout month, in which no exams are given. You may not take the same section of the exam more than one time in a testing window. It is highly recommended that you take only one exam per testing window, so that you may concentrate your efforts and studies to adequately prepare for one section. The CPA exam schedule differs from state to state and is scheduled after a CPA candidate receives their NTS, or Notice to Schedule. In January, February, April, May, July, August, October and November each year, the exam is offered up to siz days a week during those months. The exam dates and times differ from state to state.
Scheduling your CPA Exam
In order to schedule your CPA exam, you must have submitted your application, as well as all qualifying documents that are required. Once the state board determines that you are an eligible CPA candidate, you will receive a NTS, or Notice to Schedule. Once you have received your NTS, you can check the CPA exam schedule, and register for your section, and date and time directly with a Prometric testing center. Prometric.com offers a seat availability tool that can help you in scheduling your exam. Exam scheduling is done on a first come, first served basis. The sooner you schedule your exam, the better your chances for getting the time, date and location of your choice. You may not schedule your exam less than 6 days in advance and walk-in testing is not allowed, so you must check your CPA exam schedule and get your seat ahead of time. All CPA exams must be scheduled. Because there is a rolling 18 month time frame, in which all four sections must be taken (and passed), it is very important to schedule your CPA exam accordingly, and time it right, so that you have the time you need to take and pass all exams in that time frame.
